Read how business is going for Phoenix: "I moved locations to the herb shoppe, 33rd and Hawthorne Blvd, a very busy street (with hopes that business would pick up.) At the herb shoppe there are two ND (naturopaths), two (at that time) LAc (acupuncture) and two LMT’s (License Massage Therapist). I figured, with foot traffic and ‘hopefully’ referrals my business would be up to speed in a matter of weeks – oh the optimist that I am. Well my business did start to grow, but not as quickly as I would have liked. So now what to do! The owner of the herb shoppe, JJ, suggested I join a networking group and she suggested BNI.
So I went to a BNI meeting, actually 3 of them without realizing that I was only supposed to go to two before I joined, and I was so not impressed – that is another story in itself and probably not worth mentioning. So I shopped around and found I Take The Lead. The first group I went to I was amazed, here were professional people who could laugh and have fun and still get the job done. About the same time I also joined PABA. In some ways I had more in common with folks in PABA, but I enjoyed the I Take The Lead networking groups more. They taught, and are teaching me, how to run a business since I was about as green as they come. So I went to both groups, spread myself too thin and by year's end, I was getting burned out. Business was still growing, but not at a great rate. I was getting frustrated and was wondering if I was meant to be in business for myself. What to do, what to do….
During the last couple of weeks of December I did some soul-searching and came to the conclusion that I wanted to stay in business and I need to focus, something that I am not always good at doing. First they did a great job, and I would be happy to share with anyone interested. Second, who says it does not pay to go visit other groups. Charles was a frequent visitor at our B to C in Tansabourne. He got $34,000.00 worth of business with Mark and I. We asked him to come talk to us, as we were already interested in the technology and Charles shared the government is giving you 1/3 of the cost back, with NO CAP. We were not the only business generated for him from that group.

After starting my in-home computer repair company on a shoestring budget, I started looking for inexpensive ways to market my business. I tried paying some teens to hand out fliers at the Vancouver Farmers Market. Over three (non-consecutive) weekends they distributed over 1,500 fliers. I got two responses from that. I regularly posted ads on Craigs List. Got several inquiries - not one led to an appointment. I even tried an insert in a newspaper. Not one response. I was invited to an iTTL meeting and was impressed with the member's enthusiasm, and how they seemed genuinely interested in promoting each other's business. After attending two meetings I joined iTTL. In the three months I've been an iTTL member, I've gotten more business through it than I'd been able to generate on my own in the prior year. I just wanted to take a moment and let you know how proud I am to be a part of I Take The Lead. Moments ago I was able to give a young mother and her 3 kids a huge box of food so they could enjoy their Thanksgiving dinner. Literally 2 hours before I called my contact at Arapahoe County Child Protection Services, she had received a call from this family asking for help. I was fighting back tears as I loaded the case workers car (and I am as I write this). The mix of pride and humility were overwhelming. This was all possible because of all the great people associated with I Take The Lead!
Arapahoe County CPS and foster/adoption program was an easy choice for me…they are the folks that helped us adopt our little boy. Had it not been for them, I would not be a dad today. Thank you for helping me to give back to an amazing cause.

I attended one of the B2B-Business to Business lunch meetings and met Jenny Cohen of Eschelon Telecom. Jenny called me a couple of days later and offered a lead for Hospice of Washington County. They are moving in May-perfect advanced timing for me. Jenny mentions me and my company, WDI, to them. The Hospice people had received two estimates with a large price spread between them. When I contacted Hospice of Washington County I was eagerly- can you believe that?- greeted and trusted because of Jennys intro. I was able to do my proposal, and review the other two proposals with them. They were open to my suggestions and appreciated my appraisal of the other two quotes. i Take the Lead works: As a business owner with a unique and innovative marketing solution, the challenge of getting that twenty minute first-time meeting with a prospective new client can be the toughest bottleneck in the sales process. Most businesses receive so many cold calls from people they do not know, that understandably they are not willing or able to pursue each and every meeting invite. I have been in I Take The Lead for over two years and it has been a wonderful experience. Four days a week, while my competitors are having lunch and fortifying themselves to go back to their office to make cold calls, I am networking with business professionals throughout the Portland/Vancouver area. Becky and Gene have built a network of groups, particularly the B to B groups, that help you build contacts, friendships and your business. I Take the Lead meetings are great for experienced and novice net-workers. The members are very good at mentoring newer members and the quarterly evening events provide additional training and networking opportunities. Networking can fundamentally change the way you do business by making you better at whatever you do. The focus moves to your clients and your networking partners, think of them first and your business explodes. On a personal note, when something happens in your life such as a death of a family member or a spouse being diagnosed with cancer...Becky and Gene are very likely the first two people you will hear from. This is clearly more than a business for them, they care about people and the growth of I Take the Lead reflects this caring. I highly recommend I Take the Lead for any business professional.

The business world revolves around referrals, and I Take The Lead provides a comfortable and natural environment for business people to network and exchange leads. In the past few months, I have had the opportunity to give and receive leads, and I have also used the goods and services that they provide. It is great to have a forum of like-minded business men and women who honestly believe in networking as a business model. In particular, I would like to point out the services provided by two members of our group. First, Chris from Metro PC, fixed, upgraded and improved the performance and security of 3 of my computers simultaneously, and his rates are extremely reasonable. Darren with Mortgage Loans Northwest has become my “go to” guy for mortgages. He helps me maintain contact with buyers who are not ready to jump right away, and when buyers are ready to move now, he understands the urgency of the situation, and he gets the job done. He has 14 years of experience, so he is able to avoid the land mines that appear in every transaction and make it to the closing table.
